SEPTEMBER HOLIDAY CALENDAR

Each month we celebrate a variety of holidays that help us to remember impactful people and events from our history.  There are additional holidays that are not as well known that celebrate different foods, heritages and various others that can sometimes seem surprising that they have been given a special day of celebration.  However odd or strange some of the holidays may seem, this blog is not intended to ignore them or try and discredit them.  The main purpose of this article is to provide you with all of the holidays that will be occurring each month and to help provide you with more info about them and how they came to be.

You will notice that I have not listed any holidays that are related to any corporations or businesses as I don’t believe we should celebrate a company just because they are a company.  It seems like that takes the entire purpose and reasoning holidays and morphs it into an attempt for free publicity and advertising.  There are already way too many platforms that are saturated with advertisements and product placement and we are constantly being bombarded and persuaded to “buy this”, “try that”, and “if you want to be happy, you need this”.  The last place that we should have to continue to be force fed these attempts to sell and brand products is when we have an opportunity to truly honor the people that have made amazing sacrifices, including their lives, and the events in our past that have had great impacts on our society and were able to change our history.  I will still include holidays like national hotdog day and national doughnut day even though they were probably created by companies to help increase sales but it is not the same as directly trying to use a day to celebrate a company.

This month we will be listing the holidays for September.  Please don’t forget that I am human so if you notice any holidays that are missing or have any additional info about the holidays, I encourage you to leave a comment and share your information  It’s always better to be open to new info and will only help make sure that we can provide the most accurate data in the articles that we write!  The holiday list is separated into 3 groups:

1. Single day holidays
2. Week-long holidays
3. Holidays that recognize the entire month (i.e. – Breast Cancer Awareness Month)
